Plant amputations continue at GM while the paralyzed management culture fails to acknowledge their destroyed reputation from years of abusing the publics good will.
GM and Ford are junk dealers that use their big names to screw the public. Their names are shrinking by the day and they still don't get it. Its quality. Serving your fellow man. Not attempting to trick the public, with diminishing results, into one more purchase of falling apart trash with happy-face marketing campaigns, huge rebates, employee (those still employed) discounts, and extended warrantee gimmicks.
I bought a used Oldsmobile Aurora. I put 64,000 miles on it in 6 years. I've put $6000 in mechanical repairs into it. Six thousand dollars. In repairs.
This does not include maintenance or normal wear items, just broke stuff that stopped working. It right now has another $400 to be put into it for another mechanical repair. This American made car runs on gasoline and cold hard government taxed cash.
The car has been garbage. This is why General Motors is going bankrupt. Same for Ford. Because they sell junk. I've researched online (carsurvey.org and gmsucks.net for example, plus many other forums) and found countless extremely frustrated American car owners, newer model years too - 2004, 2005. Horror story after horror story. I know many people who have abandon American cars all together and switched, for good, to Japanese or Korean.
And the flood of market share loss continues. People will not stay loyal to their country's car makers if the car makers have zero loyalty to quality products. I know people who have owned Honda's, Toyota's, Subaru's, and Mazda's...put many miles on them and practically no repairs whatsoever.
I will never buy another GM product in my life. I know someone who said they will never buy another American car in their life - they switched from a falling apart NEW Ford Taurus to Toyota, then will be going up to Lexus (not Lincoln).
The trick GM and Ford and Chrysler has used for about 20 years now: come out about every five years and apologize for the crap they've sold in the last five years...then, springboard that apology into a new-and-improved sales pitch of - 'we're different now...things are great now...this time you can trust us'...sorta like politics...then they continue to sell you the same garbage with different fenders on it. Sorta like an abusive alcoholic husband..."baby, I didn't mean to black your eye, you know how I get, I'm so sorry...things are going to be different this time, I promise, lets just go out to dinner and forget this ever happened, I'll make it up to you"...
Us black-eyed beat up chic's are wizening up to this and finding reliable Japanese husbands.
I hope GM goes out of business. If I would have bought a Toyota instead of a GM, I estimate I would right now have an extra $5000 cash in my bank account. Five Star trip to Hawaii? Or pay some lazy slob to go on strike and put trash together?
Never again.
As Americans, we have no pride, no dignity, no ethics. We can wave a flag on our cars after 9-11 but we don't care what our hands do for a living, don't sign our products, just bitch about what's in it for me. This is why we're being enslaved with imported government tax-payer subsidized labor, foreign outsourced labor, and trade deficits. Fat, lazy, selfish.
Asian auto assemblies located in the USA have corporate culture imported from Asia. US brand auto workers who want $80/hour to put a bolt on a car ~ and they do a poor job at that, then they blame politicians when they get laid off...look in the mirror.
Socialistic Unions are helping to destroy this country - backed up the Jerry Springer 'if it feels good do it' workforce that thinks they should be treated like celebrities because they are willing to get outta bed. We are idiots that cant see beyond 'what's in it for me' school of economics. And the water keeps rising.
GM tried to run to Washington whining about their junk class stock rating, President Bush did the right thing by telling them to compete better or die, and die they shall.
You reap what you sew ladies and gentlemen.
If you have no pride in your work and are looking out only for yourself you will be enslaved. God, The creator of humans said the following when Jesus was on earth:
"Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all?
This means if you look out for only yourself you will become a slave - exactly what's happening to GM. The second part means if you are a good servant - like Toyota - you will achieve great success.
Tell me, as a culture, who do you suppose has more of an attitude of creating / serving quality products to the consumer and which has the attitude of listlessness and slinging trash on the consumer - Toyota, or GM? Is the potential thoughts of a US auto working on the way to work "I'm going to work today with the hope of creating a good enjoyable product for my fellow man", or, "if we don't get those extra bonuses we're going on strike"...strike three...your out of a job Homer.
GM is a microcosm of what's going on in our culture...greed. No one cares about the craftsmanship, take pride in their work, their profession...its all about money. It may not happen overnight, but soon you will be out of a job and some country with a better attitude will take your job, then you'll turn to Washington looking for some politician to blame. In our culture - it is even cool to get away with something, look at the multi-million dollar law suits attorneys swindle out of juries, and the juries attitudes are 'stick it to the man'...'I want mine'...'I deserve to be rich on someone else's money'.
Our work ethic in this country has become pathetic. A culture of greed and self service, then we whine about loosing jobs and the economy, like the government is our life long case working and we throw one out of office until the other one tells us what we want to hear meanwhile we're all working harder for less and have no free time and more pressure...because we've become a selfish society.

The American made and extreamly reliable welfare line:

As American as baseball, apple pie, and stealing your money and lieing by selling you hyped up trash with workers turning a wrench who want paid as much as scientists, we are in trouble if in America Chevrolet/GM is representative of our identiy. Wake up, you asleep at the wheel.
